Many of us have been under the weather with a colds or flu this winter. Blocked sinuses are the worst causing headaches and tiredness created by the feeling of congestion in the sinuses. The chronic inflammation of the sinuses can occur after an acute sinus infection. Here is some good advice on how to get well quick:
1. Rest, rest, rest! I can not say it enough. Resting is so important when you are sick. Your body needs time to recuperate and you are not helping yourself by pushing your body by going to work ( and making your colleagues sick too) or going training when your throat is sore and your nose is running like a dripping tap.
2. Avoid sugar, milk and bananas. Sugars aid inflammation and the milk and bananas are just furthering the production of mucus (yuck).
3, Drink warm nourishing soups and herbal teas. I recommend avoiding stimulants like nicotine, alcohol and caffeine. Give your adrenals and yourself a break. Your body needs some TLC when it is sick. One of my favourite teas to make is with slices of ginger, a stick of cinnamon and raw honey or a lemon and ginger tea with honey. Drink plenty of water and avoid cold foods. Your digestive system will benefit from warming foods and it will save your body lots of energy if you choose to eat soup during your period of sickness. There are plenty of Bone broth recipes you can easily find online. Food should be flavoured and spiced with the likes of ginger, garlic, turmeric, coriander, lemon, and leafy greens.
4. I have my own little medicine cabinet of go to vitamins when I feel a cold coming on. These include :
vitamin C 1000mg
zink 15mg
vitamin D
Echinacea drops
Vicks vapor rub
Eucalyptus oil in a bowl of warm water for you to inhale.
5. Acupuncture treatment
Hope this helps!
