Mindful walking

The winter months have been long and dark. A lot of us prefer to stay indoors than venture out into the bitter cold. We have had a lot of snow and freezing temperatures which has been perfect for skiing. There have been beautiful sunsets. One of the things that really sets me up for my day is a good walk. Sometimes if I am in a rush to work I will make time during lunch break to have a quick walk around the sea front close to the clinic. Other days I will head to the woods for a a good 10000 steps of walking. There are loads of benefits to walking! I particularly find it a great to to absorb my senses in the calm of natures offerings, the sounds, the weather, the movement, the views.,,,

People who walk up to 45 minutes a day are reported to have increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness.

  • reduced risk of heart disease and stroke.

  • improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes.

  • stronger bones and improved balance.

So get your shoes on and wrap up against the spring chill and get out your front door for a walk !
